T O P I C R E V I E WOLDIEFor those who haven't yet noticed, Dave Scott will shortly be doing a book-signing tour and (and talk) in the U.K. (see "Sightings"). Interestingly, "Sightings" doesn't mention his visit to Portsmouth on 6th April. Here, courtesy of Ottaker's plc, he will be giving a talk about "Two sides of the Moon" at Portland Building (University of Portsmouth) commencing at 6.00p.m. Tickets are £2 from Ottaker's (redeemable against book purchase). All enquiries to 023 92 821255. No mention is made of book SIGNINGS however! At his London talk, only the first half-dozen or so got an autograph, before the "minders" moved in.spaced outTalking to one of the other stores it's clear that he will only be signing new paperback copies of his book - not hardbacks, or any other material of course.Cover price for the paperback is £8.99, making it the cheapest Scott signature to date.Incidentally, if anyone is interested in a signed 2nd edition hardback copy at cost (£17.99) let me know.Robert PearlmanThank you. I have added the event on the 6th to the Sightings calendar (and have linked it to this thread, as I cannot find mention of the lecture on either Ottakar's or the University of Portsmouth's websites). I also noted a 'new' signing scheduled for the 7th in Basingstoke that was not listed on Ottakar's website when I visited before.disglobesAnyone know why Davie Scott is doing all of these book signings and has done a lot of book signings in England but not doing any here in the states?Charles[This message has been edited by disglobes (edited March 23, 2005).]spaced outI think he lives in England, although I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. In any case it makes a refreshing change for us Europeans to have an astronaut appearing over this side of the pond for a change. Steve ProcterIt would be nice if he could make it up to this neck of the woods. All his signings seem to be in the South of England or Scotland! We ARE nice people... StevemachbustermanI'll be at the Dundee event in a couple of weeks time. If anyone needs/wants a copy I'll happily pick a copy up for you (first 3 people to email me only and one copy per person). All I ask is for the £6.99 plus postage and packing and if paying by paypal to pay the paypal fee and the fee's must be received in advance of the signing. Kind regards, Derek--------------------------------------------All gone!! Thanks to all who emailed me. I'll be aiming to ship the books the day after the lecture which will be April 12th.[This message has been edited by machbusterman (edited March 23, 2005).][This message has been edited by machbusterman (edited March 23, 2005).][This message has been edited by machbusterman (edited March 23, 2005).][This message has been edited by machbusterman (edited March 24, 2005).]KirstenAnd I'm planning to attend the Guildford event on April 12th. Phone them first to find out, but it you can't get in, let me know because I also phoned first and they said they would put a ticket away for me. As I then went and got one and forget to tell them who I was, it may be that they still have that ticket behind the counter - and you would be welcome to use it in that case.KirstenGuildford is sold out by now. They were also "sold out", but around a third of the seats were actually empty. Also, nobody asked me to show a ticket and the event was in a public area of the store. Anyone could have attended, with r without a ticket. The talk itself was very interesting - Mr. Scott actually spent more time talking about Alexei Leonov than about his own part of the book. After 20 minutes or so, he started taking questions and this lasted for the balance of the hour. Those of us who were hoping to get a signature were disappointed right at the start of the evening, as there were printed notes on all the seats aplogising for the fact that time constraints would not allow Mr. Scott to decicate any books. Instead, there were pre-signed copies for sale. Ididn't say anybody buying one, but I did see lots of books in people's hands that weren't going to get signed :-(Overall though, a worthwhile evening. Good luck to those going to Guildford with getting a *real* signature.machbustermanDave Scott gave a rousing talk at his lecture in Dundee last night. The book "signing" happened behind closed doors and the only thing he signed was his paperback. He had a PR lady (same one who was at the Glasgow signing last year) who pretty much kept everyone away from him. A fellow collectSPACE member and I approached her after the lecture and after all the other people had left and asked if it would be possible for Col Scott to sign a photograph. She said he was tired and not in the best of health (looked in great shape to me.... but then again, what do I know... I ain't a doctor... LOL) and that if he signed he'd need to sign for EVERYONE....... by this the two of us WERE everyone!!It goes without saying that we wouldn't have hounded him but would have preferred to have been able to politely ask him ourselves as even if he refused he might have agreeed to pose for a photograph. This is not a critiscm of Colonel Scott.... rather a critiscm of the handler. From what I heard about his lecture at Portsmouth University at least one person was fortunate enough to be able to get a signature.... when the PR was not in the room Regards, Derek
